Fresh review of our GROUPLA exhibit from KCRW art critic, Edward Goldman:

Currently on display is an ambitious exhibition of thirty LA-based documentary photographers, each mapping a different part of the city, creating as a result ‘An Intimate View of Los Angeles.’ In collaboration with the well-known LA photographer Helen Garber, who served as the exhibition curator, the architects came up with an ingenious way of presenting the portfolios of these thirty artists. Take a look at the images on the Art Talk page of KCRW website. Thirty small flat screens are arranged in unusual clusters, and each has a loop of photographic images, so the whole exhibition consists of almost one thousand photos. I made some startling discoveries there – and trust me, so will you, if you give yourself the chance to see this exhibition which taps into the creative energy of the Los Angeles community.

Now, I realize I’m no makeup artist and she did end up looking more like she has some wierd skin disease than anything, but…

I really wanted to test out what gold body glitter would look like “in print”. So I forced her to be my guinea pig and did some impromptu shots.

Lesson learned: Body glitter only looks good on bodies, not faces.

ADDENDUM (12:34AM): Obviously, I’m very bad with makeup (but having very fun playing with curves). My poor sister now looks like a beat-up old whore. Ah well.

San Francisco, 3/27/08: Spent most of the day at Fisherman’s Wharf, stuffing myself with fresh crabs, fried calamari, and clam chowder, and even went on one of those silly boat tours (between harassing goldenmaned maidens and yelling at siblings hundreds of miles away, lawlz) and did the whole campy tourist bit. Absolute cheese, but quite an AWESOME afternoon. Went back to the hotel (Intercontinental !!), had dinner with a friend at Buca di Beppo across the street, then headed to the Concourse for the Justice show, where we spent most of the time oggling at all these kids and [homosexual males] wearing the tackiest 80s garb EVAR (far superior than L.A., most def). Also oggled at their bouncing braless underaged boobs too, of course. Made for quite AWESOME gig (Justice + Diplo’s set helped too ;p). Best part of the night happened outside though — while trying to hail a cab (leaving the show 2 hours early cuz of our old age, lawlz), we somehow managed to attract an off-duty chauffeur, who offered to drive us back to the hotel for $8 in his motherfuckin’ TOWNCAR. Motherfuckin’ a!! Definitely was the icing on top to a GREAT night. AWESOME night. AWESOME trip. AWESOME SAN FRANCISCO
